HEALTH AND SAFETY

We follow all the necessary health and safety guidelines, set out by the General Dental Council (GDC) and the Care Quality Commission (CQC), so that both our staff and patients feel secure in the dental setting.

  • All instruments are sterilized with the latest in vacuum autoclaves. Wherever possible we use disposable instruments for your health and safety.
  • There is a handrail at the side of the few steps leading into the practice and team members are always on hand to help if required.
  • The dental team’s continuous professional development includes annual training in advanced patient support.

AFTER CARE TREATMENT

After a dental extraction or other surgery in the mouth, you will be offered a private area to rest until you feel able to leave the Clinic for home. The nurses will look after your needs and make sure you feel comfortable. All post operative instructions will be explained by the receptionist who’ll also give you a written sheet with the following after care information. We’ll always be able to take a telephone call if you have concerns you wish to discuss.

  • Do not eat, drink, rinse or spit for 3 hours.
  • If bleeding should occur, fold a clean tissue into a pad (not cotton wool), place it over the site and bite down on it for 10 minutes. Any trickling of blood may be wiped away with a clean tissue.
  • Do not do any heavy work or exercise for the rest of the day.
  • Use a warm salt water mouthwash after meals for 2 days.
  • To reduce the swelling, do use some ice-packs.
  • Keep your head up with an extra pillow at night.
  • Please make sure that you take any medication that has been prescribed for you.
  • Do brush your teeth as well as you are able. A clean mouth will heal better than a dirty one.

After surgery, some swelling can normally be expected. Do call us if you feel that you have any problems.
